Spring has officially started on Friday but somehow the weather still hasn’t picked up and the temperature is still winter-like. Last week alone, we had two winter storms. I had to brave through blowing snow and sub-zero conditions just to get to work. There is a reason they call Canada the Great White North, the entire city was covered in snow. Despite the mess that it was, somehow, it was still quite enchanting. A beautiful disaster.
I had been an ungrateful little chit the past few weeks. I started my new work three months ago and I was having a hard time settling in. It was not too different from my previous job but in a professional growth perspective, I can definitely make a career out of this new one. My predicament was the fact that I am in an industry where we service clients who possibly represent the top 20% of the world’s wealthiest. I wasn’t seeing value in my work and I was working for people who are already rich. I talked to Tina about this and she understands how I feel. She however reasoned out that I may only be feeling this because I’m new and that I should give it a few more months. That I should still strive to be the best at what I do because even if I don’t see value in my work, other people will. True enough, in my monthly meeting with my boss, he had nothing but good things to say about me and my work ethics. He was also delighted to see that I have been more interactive towards my teammates who happen to be all boys. So maybe it is not the perfect job yet, I still have many reasons to be grateful. All I really need is to hang in there and just be really good at what I do. Someday I’m sure it will pay off.
I am on my last course for my CGA and the next three months are the final stretch. I guess I will become a certified accountant in Canada after that. I don’t really care, I’m only really looking forward to the bump in my paycheck. I honestly think the Philippine CPA is as competitive as any other country’s CPA and it sucks that Canada doesn’t see it that way.
Earlier tonight, my roommate had dinner with a former colleague in SGV. The former colleague apparently moved here only a month ago to work for Ernst & Young Halifax. Talk about small world!
