A microstory.
“Give me a kiss.”
I looked up to him perplexed thinking I misunderstood. He wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me close. “Give me a kiss.” He said another time. An instant later, he leaned in to close the gap between his lips and mine. In the middle of a lively crowd of spectators making their way for some action, it was an unexpected moment of reckless abandon. Finally. I thought. Finally, he dared. I realized later on his bravery was futile. His courage did not extend past a sea of strangers whose lives to me didn’t matter.
